In the southern region of Cadiz in Spain, people celebrate in a very special way an interesting kind of carnival. It is called Chirigotas, which is a musical group of a maximum 12 people and a minimum of 7 people, who sing mainly on the streets special songs also called Chirigotas. Chirigotas is a choral folk song very satirical and humoristic, mostly related to political, social or gossip issues. During the two weeks of the carnival, the groups (Chirigotas) go through the streets of Cadiz, wearing funny costumes. The costumes are always related to the script of song. The Chirigotas sing their funny songs making people laugh. Then the people vote for their best Chirigota (taking into account the script, the costume and the performance). At the end of the carnival one of the chirogotas is crowned as champion of the year.
The carnival is celebrated on a different date each year on Ash Wednesday. This year it was on 23 Feb-15 March 2017.
